Lisboa Card Review
During my trip to Lisbon, I discovered the Lisboa Card, and honestly, I’ve never experienced a travel pass that is this practical for travelers. It doesn’t just cover unlimited rides on trams, buses, and the metro—it also includes free entry to many of the city’s top attractions. WHAT?!?! FREE ENTRY?!?!
Most city cards usually cover unlimited transport, but the Lisboa Card goes a step further by giving you free admission to major landmarks. That’s what makes it such a game-changer.
Free Entry and Discounts
With the Lisboa Card, you can enter places like Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, and São Jorge Castle without paying extra. On my trip, I used it to get into Jerónimos Monastery and São Jorge Castle for free, and I even enjoyed a 20% discount at Lisbon Cathedral.
The card comes in three types: 24-hour, 48-hour, and 72-hour passes. And the countdown starts the moment you first use the card, which makes planning pretty flexible.
I didn’t know about Lisboa card until I travelled Lisbon. So I bought it on the spot at Ask Me Lisboa. It is somewhat like the city’s official tourist information center. There’s one right at Praça do Comércio. And if you had booked online through platforms like Klook, you can exchange your voucher here as well.
Since we had planned to spend our second day in Sintra and only a half-day in Lisbon on the third, our plan was to use the card for our last day—when we could dedicate the whole day to sightseeing around the city. We had bought it on our thrid day but spared it until the last day.
Is It Worth It?
Absolutely! A 24-hour pass cost me €31, while the ticket for Jerónimos Monastery alone is €18 and São Jorge Castle is €15. With just those two visits, the card already pays for itself. Adding unlimited access to trams, buses, and the metro? This is one of the best travel deals I’ve found in Europe.
Transportation in Europe can get expensive, so having a card that covers both transit and attraction fees is a total win for travelers.
