Yasaka Shrine, the only nighttime option

To be honest, Yasaka Shrine wasn’t a very appealing choice for me. But in Kyoto, most tourist spots close by 5 p.m., so there’s not much to do in the evening. A lot of young people go to izakayas at night, but since I was traveling with family, I didn’t really feel like bar-hopping. That made Yasaka Shrine pretty much the only landmark we could visit at night.

I heard Yasaka Shrine is supposed to bring good fortune for businesses.

When we arrived, the lanterns were lit, creating a unique and somewhat mystical atmosphere. That part was interesting to see.

But to be honest, as I walked around the shrine, nothing really struck me as impressive or moving. It just felt like any other shrine. And since it was nighttime, it wasn’t ideal for taking photos either.

So overall, I don’t think I really enjoyed Yasaka Shrine. But I think it’s worth visiting if you have nothing else to do in the evening, although I wouldn’t say it’s a must-see destination.
